Gathering Evidence from Neighbors
When an incident occurs—whether it’s a break-in, property damage, or something else—your neighbors might have valuable evidence, like security camera footage, photos, or firsthand accounts. With Knoc.us, requesting this evidence is simple and respectful.
1. Log In to Your Knoc.us Account
Open the Knoc app or visit https://knoc.us and sign in with your credentials.
If you don’t have an account yet, sign up—it only takes a minute!
2. Create a New Incident
From the dashboard, click Report Incident (look for the + icon on mobile).
3. Describe the Incident
Provide a brief, clear description of what happened. Include:
- Date and time of the incident (e.g., “March 20, 2025, around 7:00 PM”).
- Location (e.g., “Near 123 Maple Street” or “My backyard”).
- What you’re looking for (e.g., “Ring doorbell footage” or “Any photos of a red car”).
Keep it polite and to the point—neighbors are more likely to help if you’re respectful.
4. Set Your Request Radius
Select the notification radius based on the severity of your issue.
Knoc will alert neighbors within this predefined area who are also on the platform.
5. Add Optional Details
Upload a photo or sketch of the incident area (e.g., a map or a picture of your front porch) to help neighbors understand your request.
Specify if you need the evidence by a certain date (e.g., for an insurance claim or police report).
6. Send Your Request
Review your message, then hit “Share Incident.”
Neighbors will receive a notification via the Knoc app, SMS, or email, depending on their settings.
Tips for Success
- Be Specific: Vague requests like “Did anyone see anything?” get fewer responses. Mention details like time, place, or specific items (e.g., “a loud noise at 3 AM”).
- Stay Courteous: A friendly tone encourages cooperation.
- Act Quickly: Send your request soon after the incident while it’s fresh in people’s minds.
